Two examples of educational technology tools that educators can us to support self-directed learners are Quizlet and Penzu. Quizlet gives the learner an opportunity to practice flashcards and answer multiple choice questions that reflect the area of learning the student is interested in. Penzu is an online journal that allows students to free write and be inquisitive learners about the content they are studying. These two tools help personalize learning for the students so that they are more empowered. (The Digital Teacher, 2018).
Two examples of assistive technology are text-to-speech and closed captioning. Text-to-speech helps students who are non-verbal be able to communicate with others in a modified way. This helps non-verbal students be able to collaborate with peers in groups and engage with the teacher as well. Closed captioning is a digital tool that helps students who are deaf or hard of hearing. It also assists EL students because they are able to read the words and synthesize them instead of trying to understand the spoken words. These two tools help students understand and participate more fully in the instruction and curriculum.
I believe that our teacher instruction and student learning outcomes can be transformed as we utilize technology adequately into the classroom.
